KIDS ACTIVITY TABLE

Parents can struggle with assembling flat-packed furniture, particularly when managing young children and busy schedules. The goal of This project was to design a kids' work station that can be flat-packed for easy shipping but assembled effortlessly by a single person. This table is multifunctional, serving both as a workspace for kids activities and a storage unit for art supplies. The assembly process requires minimal tools, simple instructions, and be quick enough for one person to manage alone.

Design Process

Iteration One

Week one of this project began to explore initial concepts through prototyping. This first model, made of honeycomb cardboard and 3D printed components, serves as the foundation for this project. This model introduces the framework that begins to shape the future of this project. Through iterative design, I continued to refine my approach, ensuring that each subsequent model builds upon the insights gained from this first one.

Iteration Two: Wall Mounted

As I began the second week of this project, I turned my attention to a new way to address the brief. This time, I'm looking at a wall-mounted solution. By using vertical space, I plan to create an original design that fulfills the same needs in a fresh way. This approach helps me face the project’s challenges with a new outlook, ensuring the final product is both appealing and functional.

Iteration Three: Accordion

In the third week of the project, a noticeable change in view on assembly took place. The focus changed to efficiency and simplicity, aiming to reduce unnecessary movements and simplify the process. Each step was reviewed to find ways to cut down on actions, creating a clearer assembly method. This review not only boosted productivity but also encouraged ongoing improvement in assembly practices.
This two-month project led to significant professional growth. Each step, from planning and research to execution and evaluation, provided valuable lessons. Facing challenges highlighted the need for adaptability and problem-solving. Working with team members enhanced my understanding of different viewpoints, improving the project's results. Overall, this experience not only built my skills but also emphasized the importance of perseverance and teamwork in reaching goals.
